HIGHTREES

Hightrees was designed by the architect Hugh Britten for his own use. Completed in 1936, it was among the earliest residences built in inner suburban Wollongong. The Hightrees grounds were once extensively landscaped, but had been subdivided and the gardens allowed to fall into disrepair.

Detom Design worked sensitively within the framework of existing drystone walls and stately mature trees to bring the landscape up to date for the current owners. Original sandstone paving was reused throughout the landscape while maintaining a clear distinction between original and new works.

The pool and surrounds were refurbished to include an outdoor entertainment area, access issues rectified and the gardens replanted with species sensitive to the original woodland plantings.
